McKenna Advances To Consolation Semifinals In National Indoor Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va - The Sun Devil Women's Tennis Team continued to represent Friday in Charlottesville as the 2008 National Indoor Championships continued which saw Kelcy McKenna advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket where she'll face top-seeded Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech tomorrow as the tournament continues.
After failing to advance in the Main Bracket with a first round 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 loss to Furman's Laura Gioia, McKenna has stormed back to take her next two matches in the consolation bracket, toppling Taylor Ormond of Baylor 7-5, 6-4 before following that up with another straight sets win, going 6-3, 6-2 over third-seeded Melanie Gloria of Fresno State. The Sun Devil is now set to lock horns with Georgia Tech Yellowjacket and NCAA Champion Amanda McDowell in tomorrow's semifinals.
In doubles, Laila and Nadia Abdala came out to win their first set in the Main Draw with a tough 9-8(4) win over Delia Sescioreanu andTereza Ververkova of Auburn-Montgomery before falling in a tough 8-0 loss to Kristy Frilling and Kelcey Tefft of Notre Dame in the second to end their run.
The 2008 National Indoor Championships will continue tomorrow with Kelcy McKenna continuing to vie for a conslation bracket title against one of the best in the nation.
