Cougar Women Victorious in Final Exhibition

Nov. 9, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - A trio of freshmen led the Washington State University women's basketball team to an 86-61 victory over Concordia (Ore.) in an exhibition game Sunday at Friel Court. April Cook (21 points) Jazmine Perkins (15) and Rosie Tarnowski (13) each scored in double figures to lead the Cougars in the team's final tune-up before the regular season.

Not just scoring threats, each of the freshmen trio filled the stat sheets. Cook added seven rebounds, six assists and six steals; Perkins chipped in eight rebounds, four assists and three steals; and Tarnowski posted five rebounds, one assist and one steal.

WSU's freshmen combined for 59 of the team's 86 points.

Senior Ebonee Coates recorded a game-high 12 rebounds, and fell two points shy of a double-double with eight points.

The Cougars' defensive pressure was once again too much for the opposition. In the first exhibition game against Showtime Basketball WSU scored 54 points off of 35 turnovers. Tonight against the Cavaliers, the Cougars scored 21 points off of 29 turnovers.

WSU also outrebounded Concordia 55-39 and scored 25 second chance points on 31 offensive boards.

The Cougars open the 2008-09 regular season on the road against Texas Tech Nov. 16. Tip-off against the Lady Raiders is scheduled for noon (PT) in Lubbock, Texas.
