Nov. 9, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - Jessica Gysin recorded 13 kills and 10 digs Sunday as the No. 10 USC Women of Troy earned a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) over the host Washington State Cougars. Freshman outside hitter Alex Jupiter added 12 kills and hit .348 while redshirt freshman middle blocker Lauren Williams had eight kills while hitting .533.

USC improved to 14-8 overall and 7-6 in Pac-10 play while Washington State fell to 7-17 on the season and 0-13 in conference.

Taylor Carico had 43 assists and five digs for the Trojans.

Brittany Tillman led Washington State with 15 kills and hit .458 in the match.

The Trojans pulled away in the first set with a 9-4 run after holding a 12-10 lead. Williams provided two kills during the run while Kimmee Roleder had a kill and a service ace. The Women of Troy had a three-point lead in set two, but errors helped the Cougars get back into the set to tie it at 20-20. Garrett hit a side out kill and followed that with a service ace as Gysin later gave USC the 2-0 lead in the match.

WSU had a 20-18 lead in the third set before Gysin figured in three of USC's four straight points to take the lead and eventually finish the sweep.

USC will close out its home portion of the 2008 regular season schedule with matches next weekend against Arizona on Friday (Nov. 14) and Arizona State on Saturday (Nov. 15).
