THIS WEEK: Washington State travels to Portland, Ore., for a NCAA Championship First Round match against Texas, Friday, Nov. 14.

RETURN TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP: Washington State is making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and its first since 2002...sixth-year head coach Matt Potter is making his first postseason appearance...Cougars won at Wisconsin (3-1) and lost to William & Mary (4-0) at Notre Dame in 1994, lost at home to Montana (1-0) in 2000 and lost to Arizona State (2-1) at Santa Clara in 2002.

WASHINGTON STATE AGAINST THE FIELD: The Cougars are 2-5-3 this season against teams participating in the 2008 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship...WSU tied at James Madison (2-2), Aug. 29, tied William & Mary (0-0) at James Madison, Aug. 31, lost to Illinois (2-1) at Tennessee, Sept. 5, tied West Virginia (1-1) at Tennessee, Sept. 7, won at UC Santa Barbara (1-0), Sept. 12, lost at UCLA (2-1, 2 OT), Oct. 10, tied at USC (0-0), Oct. 12, defeated California (2-1) at home, Oct. 17, lost to Stanford (3-0) at home, Oct. 19 and tied Washington (0-0) at home, Oct. 31.

COUGARS NATIONALLY RANKED: Washington State is ranked nationally this week by the NSCAA (24th)...sixth-straight week Cougars have been ranked in at least one poll this season and 13th overall under Matt Potter.

LINE OF DEFENSE: Washington State has recorded nine shutouts, including its last three matches, this shy of school record set in 1994 and equaled in 2006.

WORKING OVERTIME: WSU has played a school-record eight overtime matches in 2008...Cougars have five ties, a loss at UCLA and win at Oregon and against Arizona State at home, all in double overtime.

GET YOUR NAME IN THE BOX SCORE: Freshmen Megan Chapin (assist), Ali Fenter (two goals), Jacquelyn Roth (two assists), Tiara Pittman (two goals, one assist) and Lani Amack (assist), and sophomores Emma Stolz (goal and assist) and Lindsay Parlee (assist) have each tallied their first-collegiat point this season...Parlee is the first goalkeeper to record a point in school history.

ABOUT TEXAS: The Longhorns are 12-3-4, 5-2-3 in the Big 12...finished tied for fifth in the Big 12...Longhorns are nationally ranked by the NSCAA (19th), Soccer America (21st) and Soccer Buzz (25th)...Soccer Times poll not available at press time...Kasey Moore and Courtney Goodson share the team lead with six goals and 16 points...Longhorns, ranked 16th-nationally, won 2-0 in Austin, Sept. 26, 2003 in only previous meeting.
