STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Julia Smit of the third-ranked Stanford women's swimming and diving team has been named the collegeswimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for NCAA Division I women, the website announced today. She was selected based on her performances from November 2-9 by a panel of collegiate coaches.

Smit dominated at the two-day Anteater Shootout hosted by UC Irvine, recording five individual event wins in the 100 free (twice), 200 back, 200 IM and 400 IM. More impressively, in a season with far tougher qualifying standards, she recorded NCAA 'A' standard times in both the 200 IM (1:56.06) and the 400 IM (4:06.89). She also posted 'B' times in her other three victories, while her time of 48.48 in the 100 free moved her into fifth place on Stanford's all-time top-10 list for that event.

Smit's effort helped Stanford sweep the two-day event, as the Cardinal defeated all five teams in Pool 1 on the second day of competition.

'We really came together as a team and took some risks in our races,' Stanford head coach Lea Maurer said. 'Julia raced well, had fun and helped our team make strides as a group during the Anteater Shootout.'

This is Smit's fourth collegeswimming.com Collegiate Swimmer of the Week award, as she was honored twice during her freshman season and once last year as a sophomore.

Stanford's swimmers are next in action the weekend of Nov. 28-30, when they travel to Toronto, Canada for the Bell Invite.
