UCLA To Host 2010 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regionals
Nov. 12, 2008
UCLA has been selected to host the 2010 NCAA West Regional Women's Gymnastics Championships in Pauley Pavilion. The Regional Championships will take place on Apr. 10, 2010.
The Bruins last hosted an NCAA Regional in 2001. UCLA also hosted the 2004 NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Pauley Pavilion.
'We are excited to be awarded the 2010 NCAA West Regional Championship,' said UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field. 'Pauley Pavilion is an arena that has an illustrious history of playing host to an eclectic variety of events, including sporting events, award shows, political debates and rallies and many rock concerts. UCLA has always hosted impressive events that are top rate experiences for the student-athletes and fans alike.'
Also hosting Regional Championships are Kentucky (Central), Penn State (Northeast), Utah (North Central), Missouri (South Central) and West Virginia (Southeast).
The top two teams, as well as the top two all-around competitors not on an advancing team, from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the 2010 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships, being held April 22-24, at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships in that event only, if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around competition.
UCLA has won 17 NCAA Regional Championships, including seven this decade.
