Stanford Adds Mikaela Ruef To 2009-10 Recruiting Class
Nov. 13, 2008
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer added another highly-touted recruit to The Farm Thursday, announcing the signing of forward Mikaela Ruef (Beaver Creek, Ohio/Beaver Creek HS) to a National Letter of Intent. Ruef joins post Joslyn Tinkle as Stanford's incoming freshmen for the 2009-10 season.
'Mikaela, at 6-3, is a `three' player and we are excited to have her join our program,' VanDerveer said. 'She shoots the three and handles the ball very well. Mikaela plays the game like a guard in a 6-3 body.'
As a junior last season at Beaver Creek, Ruef was named the Greater Western Ohio Conference Player of the Year while averaging 13.5 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. In addition to her player of the year selection, Ruef also garnered first-team Dayton Daily News Division I All-Area and Associated Press Division I All-Southwest District honors. She was also named All-Ohio honorable mention.
Ruef has received praise for her play as a point forward, possessing the skills and style of play of a guard in a solid 6-3 frame. A lefty with good range from behind the arc, Ruef also brings solid ball-handling skills and shooting ability to The Farm.
'I'm excited to head to Stanford because it is such a good school as well as a very good team,' Ruef said. 'Stanford's amazing academically, and the opportunity to get a degree there is great. When I visited Stanford, I felt it was the right place for me, and I have family in the San Francisco area, so it will be fun to be near them.'
Stanford, ranked second in the nation in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, opens up the 2008-09 season this Friday night at 7 p.m., hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers at Maples Pavilion.
