Nov. 14, 2008
The Arizona volleyball team lost it seventh straight road game, falling to No. 10 USC 3-0 Friday night in Los Angeles.
The Wildcats (14-11, 4-9) could never muster any kind of threat to the host Women of Troy (15-8, 8-6) and fell 25-17, 25-19, and 25-16.
Arizona recorded just a .098 hitting percentage with 32 kills to USC’s .299 and 40.
This match highlighted the Wildcats struggles this season on the road. Arizona has lost seven straight away from McKale and have yet to win a conference game on the road.
Arizona beat the Women of Troy in five sets in the first meeting in Tucson, but never threatened in this road contest.
No Wildcat reached double-digits in kills, with sophomore Tiffany Owens leading the way with nine followed by sophomore Stephanie Snow, who recorded seven. All of Snow’s seven kills came without her recording an error and finishing with a .583 hitting percentage.
In the third set, USC used a 10-2 run to move the score to 20-9 before putting the Wildcats away. Arizona had early leads of 10-6 and 13-10 in the first set, but the Women of Troy fought back to top the Wildcats and split the season series.
Arizona heads across town to face No. 9 UCLA Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. at Pauley Pavillion.
