No. 5 Huskies Down Oregon State, 3-0, For Fourth Straight Win

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The fifth-ranked Huskies won their fourth-straight match Friday night, defeating Oregon State, 3-0, (25-19, 26-24, 25-16) in the Gill Coliseum.
Washington is now 20-4 on the season, 11-3 in the Pac-10. California was swept by Stanford Friday night, giving the Huskies sole possession of second place in the league.
Sophomore setter Jenna Hagglund notched her team-leading seventh double-double of the season with 39 assists and 10 digs. Senior Jessica Swarbrick had an outstanding offensive night, tying her season-high of 13 kills on 19 swings with just one attack error (.632). Swarbrick also recorded one dig and three block assists. Freshman Bianca Rowland also put up career numbers against the Beavers. Rowland put down a career-high nine kills for a .900 attack percentage [9-0-10]. Junior Airial Salvo notched nine kills to go with seven digs.
On defense, junior libero Tamari Miyashiro scooped up 15 digs.
As a team, the Huskies recorded five service aces and hit .304. Washington and Oregon State tied in kills (43-43), but the Huskies trailed in assists, digs and blocks.
Washington got out to a quick 9-4 lead in the third set, forcing the Beavers into taking an early timeout. The Huskies continued to build on their lead, going up 15-8, causing Oregon State to call its second timeout to regroup. Washington used two three-point runs to finish the set, downing the Beavers, 25-16. The Huskies hit .457 as a team in the third set, while holding Oregon State to .250.
The second set was the closest, as the two teams battled through seven early ties before Oregon State took a 10-7 lead. Washington called its first timeout. The Huskies pulled within a point off two kills by Rowland, an ace by Miyashiro and a kill by Swarbrick, forcing Oregon State into a timeout. A kill by Bree Knitter put the Beavers up 15-13, but a block assist by Jill Collymore and Swarbrick again put the Huskies down by one. Back-to-back kills by Swarbrick gave the Huskies the 16-15 lead. The teams tied at 16-16, 17-17, 18-18, 19-19, 20-20, 21-21 and 22-22 before a kill by Collymore put Washington on top 23-22. Oregon State called a timeout. A Washington attack error knotted the set again at 23 all. A kill by Collymore put the Huskies back on top, 24-23, but an attack error by Washington tied the set at 24-24 again. Hagglund and Swarbrick teamed up for a block assist to give Washington the lead and set point. Rowland pounded out a kill to end the stanza for the Huskies.
Washington set the tone for the match early in set one, jumping out to a 10-5 lead, with kills by five different players. The Beavers called a timeout to try to slow Washington's hot hitters. Oregon State took three of the first four points out of the break, but the Huskies got hot again, and drove the score to 20-14. The Beavers called their second timeout. OSU rallied to take five points, but it wasn't enough, as the Huskies took two of the last three points to win the set. Washington hit .500 in the first set and recorded 12 kills.
