Sun Devils Hammer Cleveland State in WNIT Opener

Nov. 14, 2008

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Sybil Dosty had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 17 Arizona State to a 76-59 victory over Cleveland State in the opening round of the preseason WNIT on Friday night.

Briann January added eight points and nine assists for the Sun Devils.

The 6-foot-3 Dosty hit 7 of 10 shots from the floor and had her way against a diminutive Vikings team that started four guards.

Down 36-22 at halftime, Cleveland State drew within 10 early in the second half, but Arizona State's Kate Engelbrecht hit back-to-back 3-pointers to quell the rally.

Dominique Butler had 18 points for the Vikings, who made their first NCAA tourney appearance last spring.

Arizona State will play host to Tulane in the second round on Sunday afternoon.
