Cal Men's Tennis Signs Konigsfeldt to Letter of Intent
Nov. 19, 2008
BERKELEY - California men's tennis head coach Peter Wright announced today that the Golden Bears have signed prep star Christoffer Konigsfeldt to a letter of intent. The 6-2 Dane (Rungsted Gymnasium, Rungsted Kyst, Denmark) will enroll and compete during the 2009-10 season.
'Christoffer possesses a powerful serve and backs it up with a huge forehand,' said Wright. 'He is very good at the net, so he can play high quality singles and doubles. He has enjoyed success at the international junior level, and in the past six months, has entered the men's world rankings. He is a confident player on the court and is still growing; I expect he'll be stronger, more fit and even faster when he arrives on campus.'
Konigsfeldt won the Danish junior singles title in 2003, '05 and '07 and claimed junior doubles titles a total of 10 times (two in mixed doubles). He was a member of the Danish national junior team at the 2004 and 2006 European Championships and was ranked as high as No. 3 at the end of the 2006 season in the Danish tennis leagues. His brother Alexander is a sophomore on the UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team.
The Bears begin dual-match play with a trip to Hawai'i on Jan. 16, 2009. Cal takes the courts in Honolulu at 1 p.m. HT to face the Warriors.
