Cutura provided the highlights with three straight kills and adding another one later as the Golden Bears took the 12-8 lead. Kimmee Roleder and Zoe Garrett stuffed a Cal attempt and another USC block cut the deficit to one. Roleder's ace tied it at 14-14 before Lloyd was able to sneak a kill for a 15-14 Cal lead at the media timeout. Mindi Wiley added to the lead with an ace before the Trojans caught fire. Williams put down her fourth kill of the set as USC reeled off six straight points with Gysin chipping in two kills from the back row. Solomon's kill made it a 21-18 USC score, but the Trojans closed it out with four straight points as Gysin figured in two kills and the game-winning block.
Three service errors and two attack errors by the Golden Bears set up a 7-6 score for the Trojans in set two. Tarah Murrey made it 9-8 for Cal. Garrett's slide kill started four straight for USC and the 12-9 advantage. Cal got to within one at 17-16 before Gysin's kill helped USC score six straight points for the 23-16 lead. Despite having set point at 24-17, Cal unleashed a furious rally as the Golden Bears were able to score eight straight points as Murrey figured in with three kills and a solo block to take the lead, 25-24. Cutura was the key figure as she kept Cal ahead on set point and put back-to-back terminations down as the host Bears tied the match in thrilling fashion.
Cal rolled the momentum to the third set, getting out to a 10-5 lead. Gysin used a solo block to make it a 13-9 Cal lead before the Golden Bears rattled off six straight points and took command at 19-9. Jupiter used two kills to try and get the Trojans back into the set, but they ran out of time and the Bears took a 2-1 lead in the match.
It was all Cal in the fourth set after building an 8-3 lead. The Golden Bears then found a good rotation as Cal scored 13 straight points with Reilly and Cutura recording two kills each to make it a 21-3 lead and eventually take the match. Cal posted 12 kills and no errors in the concluding set for a .632 percentage.
USC concludes the regular season next Friday (Nov. 28) at UCLA in a 3 p.m. match that will be broadcast on FOX Sports Net.
