Stanford's Appel Selected U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. After leading her team to a pair of wins last week, STANFORD’S Jayne Appel was selected the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.

The Pleasant Hill, Calif., native utilized all aspects of her game to help the team to two victories, averaging 12.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. The 6-foot-4 junior center led all players with 10 rebounds and a career high-tying seven assists in a 84-46 rout of New Mexico.

Facing off against #3/2 Rutgers, Appel shot 8-for-11 from the floor (72.7 percent) and led all players with 19 points and 14 rebounds in an 81-47 upset rout of the Scarlet Knights. It was the first double-double of the season for Appel.

Appel earns the weekly accolade for the fourth time in her career, the first time this season. She won the honor three times as a sophomore. Stanford players have been cited the honor 63 times since 1986, leading the Conference in the category.

The Cardinal are headed to Hawai’i for the Thanksgiving break, taking on Purdue, Iowa State and the host Rainbow Wahine, Nov. 28-30, at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.
