Stanford Downs Hawai'i 6-1 On The Islands

The Stanford men’s tennis team closed out fall action today with a dual match against Hawai’i, dispatching the Warriors 6-1 at Wailea, Maui.
The Cardinal mopped up in doubles play, winning all three games. In the top spot, the pair of sophomore Alex Clayton and freshman Bradley Klahn overcame Sascha Heineman and Andreas Weber, 8-5, and senior Blake Muller and junior Richard Wire defeated Denis Lajola and Leo Rosenberg by the same score. Freshman Ryan Thacher and sophomore Gregory Hirshman easily bested Spence Mendoza and Craig Faulk at the No.3 position, 8-2.
In singles play, Stanford earned five points, securing the victory. Klahn (No. 2 singles) and Hirshman (No. 6 singles) scooped up easy straight-set victories, while Muller needed a tiebreaker in his first set before crushing Mendoza in the second at No. 5 singles. Thacher fought to a 6-3, 7-6 upset victory over No. 76 Weber in the No. 3 position, and fourth-ranked Clayton prevailed in a three-set match over No. 89 Lajola in the top spot.
Stanford will next compete at the Sherwood Cup in January.
