Swimming Performs Strong in Texas

The Arizona State swimming teams had a successful day at the Texas Invitational. The Sun Devils earned a number of NCAA consideration times. The men are tied for fifth after the first day with 34 points while the women finished in fourth with 95 points.
Ashton Aubry earned the first NCAA 'B' cut . The junior from Leawood, Kan., placed 10th overall, clocking in a personal best time of 52.51 to finish second in the 'B' final. Aubry's tme puts her at second, behind Caitlin Andrew, in the 100 fly. Senior Sean Boyle clocked in an NCAA consideration time in the 500 free with a personal best 4:23.03 to win the 'B' final and place ninth overall.
Boyle's fellow senior Jen Beckberger earned an NCAA consideration time after hitting the wall in 22.78 in the 50 free. Beckberger finished third in the 'B' final and 11th overall. The Sun Devils final NCAA consideration time came from the women's 400 medley team of Sasha Stephens, Ashton Aubry, Sara McDaniel and Jen Beckberger. The team hit the wall at 3:39.73. Stephen's time of 55.12 puts her at third in ASU's all-time list.
Alex Hier placed second in the 'C' final of the 100 fly with a personal best time of 49.22. Adrian Kirkpatrick earned a personal best time of 4:29.10 in the 500 free to place 15th overall. Yutaro Yamashita won the 'D' final in 4:31.00 of the same event.
Ashley Evans placed 15th overall in the 200 IM, clocking in a time of 2:01.88. Penelope Yamauchi finished 21st in 2:02.93. Max Laney clocked in a time of 1:53.12 to place 16th. Hier earned a personal best of 1:53.08 in the same event.
In the 50 free, Samantha Caldwell placed second in the 'C' final with a time 23.20. Kuwaiti Olympian Mohammed Madwa won the 'C' final with a personal best 20.05. Madwa's fellow senior Vinicius Waked placed third in 20.45
The Texas Invitational continues through Saturday.
