Amanda Fink Goes International For USA
Dec. 7, 2008
USC senior Amanda Fink is representing the United States along with five other collegiate tennis players this week. Fink and her new U.S. teammates have combined forces in Poitiers, France, for the International University Challenge of Tennis - now in its third year. Fink captains the U.S. squad of three female and three male collegiate stars, and the Trojan senior started off the tournament with a birthday celebration and a Team USA victory over Montenegro.
In all, the Challenge includes teams from eight countries. The United States team and host France are joined by Belgium, Great Britain, Ireland, Montenegro, Russia and Switzerland.
In the USA's clash with host France, Fink was edged out in a three-set battle during her singles match. She later combined forces with Arizona State's Kelcy McKenna for doubles, and the Trojan-Sun Devil duo faced another tight match, falling in another three-setter by a 10-8 tiebreaker. France pulled out the team win over the United States, but action continued overseas for the U.S. athletes. The United States finished things off with a showdown for third place against Belgium on Saturday (Dec. 6).
A two-time All-American, Fink returns to USC as the Trojans' lone senior on the roster for 2008-09.
