Dec. 7, 2008
Athens, Ga. - Five lifetime-bests were achieved by Cal women's swimmers on Sunday, as the Golden Bears wrapped up the 2008 Georgia Fall Invitational in second place with 766.5 points. Host Georgia finished in first place.
'This invitational gave us a good indication of where we need to be come March,' said head coach Teri McKeever. 'We had a great weekend, and a really good three weeks. Georgia is a quality team and they really have improved from where they were last season. For us to be the best we have to compete against the best. I was real pleased with the effort and attitude of the girls this weekend.'
Cal won't be back competing in the pool until January 30, but McKeever explained that the team will continue to focus on dry land exercises, weight room conditioning and continuous work in the pool.
Sophomore Amanda Sims achieved a lifetime best and first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.57 - fifth on Cal's all-time top 10 performance list (also an NCAA B time).
