THEN THERE WERE FOUR... STANFORD RETURNS TO FINAL FOUR

The STANFORD Cardinal, which captured their 12th Pac-10 title, swept through the Fort Collins Region and will be making their third consecutive, and 18th overall, appearance in the Final Four... Overall, it's the 42nd appearance by a Pac-10 team in the Final Four. In 28 years of NCAA Tournament play, the Pac-10 has placed at least one team in the Final Four in 26 Tournaments... The Pac-10 is 15-5 (.750) in this year's Tournament. The league went a perfect 6-0 in NCAA First Round play and is now 43-2 (.956) in the first round over the last seven years.The Conference was 11-1 after the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament as five teams advanced to NCAA Regional action for the third consecutive year. It's the seventh time in eight years that the Pac-10 had at least four teams advance to NCAA regional action... It's the eighth consecutive year in which the Pac-10 has sent at least six teams into the NCAA Tournament, and 17th overall. No other conference had more than five teams selected to play in the NCAA Tournament.

No. 2 STANFORD (30-3) vs. No. 3 Texas (29-3), 6 p.m.
No. 1 Penn State (36-0) vs. No. 4 Nebraska (31-2), 8 p.m.

Sat., Dec. 20 - NCAA Final
STANFORD/Texas winner vs. Penn State/Nebraska winner, 6 p.m.

ESPNU will televise the STANFORD/Texas semifinal match live, while ESPN2 will televise tape delay on Fri., Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. PT. ESPN2/ESPNU will air the Penn State/Nebraska semifinal match live. Saturday's championship match will be televised live by ESPN2.

PAC-10 IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT

The Pac-10 has won five of the last seven NCAA titles. Washington won it all in 2005, Stanford claimed titles in 2001 and 2004, while USC captured titles in 2002 and 2003. Over the last eight years of the NCAA Tournament, the Pac-10 has compiled an impressive 138-45 (.754) record. Toss out the 12 postseason matches in which Pac-10 teams faced each other and the league's NCAA Tournament record against non-conference foes stands at 126-33 (.792) ... Overall, the Pac-10 has won 13 NCAA titles - that's nearly half of the 27 titles presented by the NCAA. The league's overall record against non-conference opponents in NCAA Tournament play is 263-98 (.729) ... Over the last seven years, the Pac-10 is 43-2 (.956) in the first round, and 95-11 (.896) in opening round matches since 1990.

STANFORD - The Cardinal are making their 28th NCAA Tournament appearance, and are one of two teams (also Penn State) to have appeared in each NCAA Tournament... Stanford has won six NCAA titles (1992, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2004). The Cardinal captured their 12th Pac-10 title and have finished lower than second in Pac-10 play just once in 23 seasons of league play (4th in 2000)... The Cardinal have recorded 30 or more wins for the third straight season, the 12th time in the last 18 seasons, and 21 times overall... Senior MB Foluke Akinradewo is hitting .447 for her career, well above the Pac-10 career record of .415 set by USC's Emily Adams (2001-04)... Akinradewo (1,657 kills) and senior OH Cynthia Barboza (1,609) join UCLA's Natalia Williams and Elaine Youngs (1992 season) and USC's Jennifer Kessy and Jasmina Marinkovic (1998 season) as the only set of teammates to each reach 1,600 kills in the same season in Pac-10 history... The Cardinal are riding a 15-match win streak.
