TEMPE - As the Arizona State University track & field program heads into the holiday break, several internet sites are not taking a break and have featured the Sun Devil program in several stories. Both the NCAA (ncaa.com) and Trackshark (trackshark.com) have posted articles that feature the Sun Devil teams that swept the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
The NCAA story previews the race for the women's team title that the Sun Devils have won each of the past two meets with LSU, Texas A&M and Texas all looking to dethrone ASU.
The training updates feature a series of questions that were answered by current Sun Devil assistant coaches Terry Winston (men's sprints/hurdles/relays) and Kenny McDaniel (women's sprints/hurdles/relays). Trackshark.com also counted down the Top 10 performances of 2008 track & field season (both indoor and outdoor) with three Sun Devils making the list.
The Top 10 moments featured Kyle Alcorn at No. 8, No. 4 Ryan Whiting and No. 1 Jacquelyn Johnson. Alcorn made the list with his impressive runs at the NCAA Indoor Championships where he brought the distance medley relay team to a national runner-up finish before he came back to win the 3,000m national title. Whiting broke a 31-year-old collegiate record to win the men's shot put to earn his place among the Top 5 moments while Johnson found herself in a very familiar position on top as the 2008 season saw her capture her sixth and seventh NCAA individual titles (indoor pentathlon for the third time and outdoor heptathlon for the fourth time).
