CORVALLIS, Ore. -
The Oregon State women’s gymnastics program will be featured on this week’s Beavers All Access, first airing on Wednesday, Dec. 24, as part of a special series showcasing Oregon State’s winter sports.
The gymnastics feature show will first air on FSN Northwest at 5:30 p.m. PT on Wednesday and will replay throughout the week.
The feature will take a look at the 2009 team, and will go in depth with freshman Olivia Vivian about her experiences competing in the Olympic Games in Beijing last summer, as well as a feature about tradition that the gymnastics program has for high academics. In addition, head coach Tanya Chaplin and several gymnasts speak to the goals of the 2009 gymnastics team.
The Beavers’ 2009 squad, which is ranked No. 9 in the nation in the preseason, consists of a large group of seasoned veterans that have competed at the NCAA Championships each of the last three seasons. In addition, lineup mainstays Brooke Barclay, Kera Bolen, Laura-Ann Chong and Whitney Watson also return with upgraded skills. Sophomore Becky Colvin is back as well after suffering a season-ending injury in 2008.
The veterans are joined by four newcomers: Adonica Glatt (West Linn, Ore.), Leslie Mak (Toronto, Ontario), Stephanie McGregor (Calgary, Alberta) and Olivia Vivian (Perth, Australia) all of which are in the mix for lineup spots.
The Beavers’ begin the season Jan. 2 at the Cancun Classic in Mexico against No. 5 Stanford, No. 14 Denver and BYU. Oregon State home slate starts Friday, Jan. 16 when the Beavers host No. 12 Arkansas and Pac-10 foe California for a triangular meet.
