Jahanshahi Leads Swimmers At UCI/Ayres Invite With Three Event Wins

Freshman Yasi Jahanshahi led the Bruin swimmers on Saturday at the Ayres/UCI Invitational as the frosh tallied three event wins during the sprint and distance portion of the meet. The Bruins, who returned to competition after a month long layoff, were competing in off events to get back into the swing of things.
In the sprint portion of the meet, Jahanshahi posted wins in the 100 back (57.66), 200 IM (2:06.96) and 200 back (2:04.39). Several Bruins finished in the top five in other sprint events as senior Anna Poteete was second to Jahanshahi in both the 100 back (58.42) and 200 IM (2:09.84). Poteete was also third in the 50 fly (26.46).
Sophomore Lauren Hall was second in the 100 breast (1:06.01), 100 free (53.16) and 100 fly (58.14). Sophomore Madeleine Stanton was fourth in the 200 fly (2:10.41), while sophomore Sam Vanden Berge was fourth in the 50 free (25.20).
In the distance invite, Hall led a Bruin sweep of the top nine places as she won in a time of 10:08.61. Jahanshahi was second (10:12.69), while sophomore Dani Milligan was third (10:13.67).
In the 400 IM, the Bruins took the second through fourth-place with Vanden Berge leading the way in second (4:29.70). Senior Madeleine Staton was third (4:32.14) and junior Isabell Fischer was fourth (4:34.45).
Competition continues with the relay and diving invitationals on Sunday.
