This Week in Pac-10 Women's Basketball
Jan. 12, 2009
THIS WEEK IN PAC-10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: After this weekend, only one team will remain undefeated in Pac-10 play, as the highly-anticipated matchup between #9 Stanford and #11 California takes place in Berkeley. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net. Arizona State will also host USC on FSN on Saturday.
Not to be overshadowed are matchups between the Washington and Oregon schools, while UCLA and USC travel to Arizona and Arizona State.
PAC-10 IN THE RANKINGS: After a pair of dominating wins apiece, Stanford and California have each inched up a couple of spots in the nation rankings, with the Cardinal taking over the No. 9 spot, while the Bears are 11th in the Associated Press poll. In last week's ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, both were ranked in the top 10 at No. 7 and 9, respectively. UCLA is receiving votes in this week's writers' poll, while Arizona State garnered votes in the coaches' poll last week.
When the poll was released on Nov. 24, it was the first time two Pac-10 teams have been ranked in the top five in the same week since the final poll in 1989-90. That year, Stanford was No. 2 and Washington was No. 3. Cal also achieved a first in that Nov. 24 poll, appearing in the top five in the ranking for the first time ever.
