Cal Volleyball to Host Annual Banquet and Awards Presentation

The California volleyball team will host its annual banquet and awards presentation on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Haas Pavilion Club Room in Berkeley, Calif. Reception begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and program at 7 p.m. The Golden Bears will celebrate the 2008 season with staff, faculty, friends, family and fans.

Cal received the No. 6 ranking in the final Bison/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll today, after completing the 2008 season with the best record in school history at 26-7 (.788). The Bears also recorded a program-best 13 victories in conference play and finished third in the Pac-10 (13-5) after defeating all nine other conference teams for the first time in school history.
Cal advanced to the NCAA regional final for the second consecutive year where it fell to eventual NCAA champion, top-seeded Penn State in the University Park region. The Bears set school records with new marks for winning streaks by claiming 29 consecutive sets without a loss and winning 16 straight home matches. Cal also was honored with two All-Americans as junior outside hitter Hana Cutura was selected to the first team and sophomore setter Carli Lloyd was a second-team selection.
