Revised 2009 UW Football Schedule Announced
Jan. 16, 2009
SEATTLE - Three Washington football home games have been moved from their previously scheduled dates as the Pacific-10 Conference released its final 2009 football schedule today.
The revised 2009 schedule now includes two off dates for the Huskies: Oct. 31 and Nov. 21. Previously, the schedule called for games on 12 consecutive Saturdays with no off weeks.
All three games that were changed are UW home games. The Apple Cup vs. Washington State was moved back a week, from Nov. 21 to Nov. 28. Additionally, the Washington-California game, originally slated for Oct. 10, was moved to Dec. 5, the final weekend of the regular season, and the Huskies' game vs. Arizona was changed from Oct. 31 to Oct. 10.
'Obviously, playing 12 consecutive weeks can take a big toll on our student-athletes,' said UW athletic director Scott Woodward. 'In making these schedule revisions, our main goal was to try to provide a break or two during the season, and that's what has happened. I'm pleased with how it all worked out.'
Season-ticket renewals are scheduled to be mailed out in late January. Deposits for new seasons tickets are already being accepted. Contact the Husky Ticket Office at (206) 543-2200, or click here for more information.
The Huskies, under first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, open the season Sept. 5 at Husky Stadium vs. LSU, the first of three consecutive home dates to begin the schedule. The Huskies will play a total of seven home games and five road contests.
After the opener vs. LSU, the Huskies remain at home for dates with Idaho and USC. Those games are followed by back-to-back road games at Stanford (Sept. 26) and Notre Dame (Oct. 3). After the new home date vs. Arizona, the Huskies travel to Arizona State on Oct. 17.
The Huskies take on Northwest rival Oregon at Husky Stadium on Oct. 24 and, after an their first off week of the season, take on UCLA (Nov. 7) and Oregon State (Nov. 14), both on the road. Then, after a final off week, the season concludes with home games vs. Washington State and Cal.
No game times or television broadcast arrangements have yet been determined.
