Clayton, Wire, and Muller Reach Semifinals Of Sherwood Cup

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The second day of competition at the Sherwood Cup came to a close late this afternoon at Sherwood C.C. in southern California, and three Cardinal men have worked their way into the semifinals.
Alex Clayton defeated USC's Steve Johnson in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 and will play Johnson's teammate Jaak Poldma in the semis at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday).
Also, doubles action began today and in the first round, all four Cardinal duos squared off against Bruin pairs. Stanford took three of the four matches, and of those three teams, only the tandem of Blake Muller and Richard Wire advanced past the quarterfinals and into tomorrow's semifinals. Muller and Wire will face the Trojans' Abdullah Magdas and Daniel Nguyen at 10:30 tomorrow.
The finals for both singles and doubles are scheduled to be played on Monday.
