Robert Farah Secures Sherwood Singles Title
Jan. 19, 2009
USC junior Robert Farah streaked to the Sherwood Collegiate Cup singles championship today and finished as a doubles finalist in a busy weekend of spring tournament play in Thousand Oaks, Calif. It was the junior's second straight appearance in the singles title match but his first championship win at the Sherwood action.
In the singles title match, Farah went up against Stanford's Alex Clayton. The Trojan tacked up a solid 7-5, 6-2 win over his Cardinal opponent to capture the championship. Farah was once again pulling double duty at the tourney, going the full stretch with freshman teammate Steven Johnson with a run to the doubles final. Farah/Johnson took on Stanford's Wire/Muller in the doubles title match, but took an 8-4 loss to wrap up competition.
Farah and Johnson and the rest of the Trojans now turn to open up dual match play this week at Marks Stadium. USC hosts Loyola Marymount and Sacramento State on Saturday (Jan. 24) beginning at 10 a.m.
