Men's Tennis Gears Up For Two Dual Matches
Jan. 21, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - Coming off an impressive showing at the Sherwood Cup in which No. 12 Stanford competed in both the single and doubles finals, the Cardinal will begin the dual-meet season this Friday, Jan. 23 at home against No. 51 Saint Mary's, weather permitting.
Stanford is scheduled to take on the Gaels in a 1:30 p.m. start at the Taube Tennis Center. Last year, the Cardinal upended Saint Mary's 6-1 at home, only surrendering the doubles point.
Then, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, Stanford will square off with Sacramento State at 1:30 p.m. also at Taube Tennis Center. The Hornets boast the nation's No. 30 doubles pair of Anton Stryhas and Kiryl Harbatsiuk. Harbatsiuk is also ranked No. 94 in singles, while Jason Smith is No. 114. Sac State was also voted to win the Big Sky Conference in a pre-season coaches poll.
Admission to both matches is free. Fans who are unable to attend can catch all the action from their computer via live webcams and scoring at http://gostanford.cstv.com/livestats/tennis/StanfordTennis.html. Should weather force the delay or cancellation of the matches, information regarding the status of the match will be posted on gostanford.com as soon as it is available.
