Swimming Recruit Earns Three Medals at Junior Pan Pacific Championships

Jan. 21, 2009

Paige Schultz, one of the Arizona State women's swimming team's 2009 signees, made a name for herself on the world scene last week. The versatile Canadian swimmer earned three medals while competing at the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Guam.

Schultz set a new 200 IM Canadian 15-17 age group record at the Junior Pac-Pacs. Her time of 2:15.57 bested Nancy Sweetman's previous record of 2:15.61. Sweetman's time was set in 1990, before Schultz was even born. Schultz's time gave her third place and the bronze medal. Her time puts her at fifth in the world for 2009.

Schultz was also a member of two medal-winning relays. She swam the second leg on the third place 800 LC freestyle relay team. Schultz also swam second in the 400 free relay and helped the team clinch second place.

In addition to her medals, Schultz placed second in the consolation final of the 200 free, clocking in at 2:01.10. With that time, Schultz has the seventh-fastest 200 free clocked in this year. The Toronto native also clocked in a time of 57.15 to place 11th in the 100 free and 2:16.72 to place 11th overall.

Schultz will start at ASU in fall of 2009.
