WSU Set For Three Match Road Trip

This Week - The Washington State University tennis team, ranked No. 44 (ITA) nationally begins a three-match road trip where the Cougars will face Weber State, Wednesday, No. 50 Utah, Thursday and will finish off the trip against No. 47 BYU, Friday.
About the Wildcats - Weber State finished the 2008 season with a 7-16 overall record and a 1-7 record in the Big Sky Conference. The last time these two squads met was February 11, 1996, when the Cougars downed the Wildcats 6-3. WSU leads the all-time series against Weber State 3-2. The Wildcats will open up their dual match schedule against the Cougars Wednesday.
About the Utes- The No. 50 Utah Utes compiled a 15-9 overall record last season. WSU and Utah last met February 15, 2008 when the Cougars downed Utah 5-2 in Pullman. Washington State leads the all-time series 5-0. The match against the Cougars will kick of Utah's 2009 campaign.
About BYU - The No. 47 BYU Cougars finished the 2008 campaign with a 13-8 record. The last time these two teams met, WSU downed the Cougars 4-3. WSU now leads the all-time series 5-4 and with the last victory broke a two match losing skid to BYU.
Last Week- January 17th, the Cougars hosted a double header earning a sweep over Air Force and Idaho, defeating them both by the same score of, 6-1. WSU was lead by Ekaterina Kamendova, Elisabeth Fournier and Ioana Oprea as each picked up two victories in singles play. Kamendova and Aleksandra Cekic won both of their doubles matches at the No. 1 spot. Fournier and Oprea also earned two doubles victories clinching the doubles point against both teams.
Team Leaders - Freshman Elisabeth Fournier is leading the way for the Cougars with an 11-1 record. She has a winning percentage of .916, highest on the team. Sophomore Ekaterina Kamendova has a record of 9-2, senior Aleksandra Cekic has posted a 8-4 record, sophomore Marina Nicolas has posted a record 6-4 record, Jessica Gomez has recorded 7 victories and Ioana Oprea has earned 5 victories.
Last Season - The Cougars finished the season ranked 43rd nationally with, a record of 16-9. The 16 wins were the most wins in a season during Harts tenure. Eight of the nine losses were to ranked teams. Ekaterina Burduli set the all-time mark for wins in a season with 28 and finished her career with an all-time best 90 victories.
Coach Hart - Washington State's Lisa Hart guides the Cougars in her sixth season as head coach. Her overall record as a Cougar is 60-62. Last season Hart led the team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002.
