Piro Accepted to Grad School
Jan. 22, 2009
CORVALLIS – Senior D’Anna Piro of the Oregon State gymnastics team received wonderful news yesterday (Jan. 21) when she was admitted to Stanford’s Graduate School of Business for the class of 2013. Piro will start school in the fall of 2011.
While this may be the biggest academic moment of her life, academic awards are not new to her. Piro is a two-time Pac-10 All-Academic first team selection, has earned the NACGC/W (National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women) Scholastic All-American award four times and was selected was honored as an everyday champion at Oregon State in 2007. In addition, last year, Piro was selected as OSU’s 2008 NASPE (National Association for Sport and Physical Education) Outstanding Major of the Year.
Piro is a double-major in Business Administration and Exercise and Sport Science in Oregon State’s Honor’s College. On top of those academic endeavors, Piro also holds the title of president in OSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Piro’s award came a week after former OSU gymnast Yuki Lamb was onhand for the Beavers’ nationally televised basketball game against Washington State last Thursday to be honored for her academic prowess. Lamb was a recipient of the Oroweat “Healthy Minds” Postgraduate Scholarship. Chosen from a pool of Pac-10 postgraduate scholarship winners, Lamb was recognized by the Pac-10 Conference and its corporate partner Oroweat for her overall excellence in athletics, academics, service and commitment to graduate education. Lamb was awarded her giant-sized $10,000 check during a timeout of the basketball game.
