Swimmers Travel to Los Angeles To Battle Pac-10 Foes
Jan. 22, 2009
SEATTLE - The University of Washington men's and women's swim teams travel to Los Angeles this weekend to battle USC and UCLA in Pac-10 dual meets. The men and women will both face USC on Friday at 1 p.m. while on Saturday, the women will face UCLA and the men will take on USC for a second time, both at Noon.
Saturday's match up between the Washington and UCLA women marks the first time the two teams have ever faced each other. The Husky women are 9-7 overall and 3-3 in Pac-10 competition this season. UCLA comes into the meet with a 4-1 overall record.
The UW men (8-5, 1-3) will face yet another highly-ranked opponent when they take on No. 11 USC on Friday and Saturday. UW has faced a difficult schedule in 2008-09, going head-to-head against five teams ranked No. 11 or higher nationally. The Huskies have held their own, led by seniors Jon Banker, Evan Bernier and Scott Spansail, who have re-written the Husky record books this season.
The Huskies have just two more dual-meet weekends remaining, including this weekend, before the Pac-10 Championships in late February and early March. The UW women will stay home for the Pac-10 meet, Feb. 25-28, in Federal Way, Wash., while the men will travel to Long Beach, Calif., March 4-7.
