TUCSON – The Arizona swimming and diving teams received strong efforts from freshman A.J. Tipton and senior Lara Jackson as well as divers Ainsley Oliver and Ben Grado in routing the California Golden Bears today at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. The men won by the score of 171.5-128.5 while the women topped Cal, 178-120.

Tipton, a freshman out of Knoxville, Tenn., won both the 100 and 200 butterfly with impressive times of 48.86 and 1:46.67, respectively.

Jackson proved dominant in the women’s 50 and 100 free, winning both events and posting times of 22.40 and 50.02.

At the Kasser Family Pool, Ainsley Oliver and Ben Grado swept both the one and three meter dives. Oliver recorded scores of 255.30 and 299.25 while Grado won with scores of 339.38 and 380.40.

The Arizona women won both relay events, taking the 200 medley relay to begin the meet and winning the 400 free relay to close. Justine Schluntz, Jackson, Anna Turner and Taylor Baughman put the exclamation mark on the win with a time of 3:20.08 in the 400 free relay.

Other standouts included Olympian Jean Basson, who won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:26.73 and 1000 freestyle with a mark of 9:13.40 and Tom Cole, who won a thrilling 200 breaststroke event over teammates Josh Arreguin and Marcus Titus.

Nathan Adrian was arguably Cal’s top swimmer today, winning three events (50, 100 and 200 free) and proving to be the difference in Cal’s 400 free relay with his leadoff time of 42.29.

Arizona doesn’t have much time to rest as they host Stanford tomorrow beginning at noon at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
