Meet the New Beavers: Ashley Sanchez
Jan. 23, 2009
The 2009 Oregon State softball season is quickly approaching, and the Beavers welcome five new faces to the team this season. Ashley Sanchez, an outfielder from Alameda, Calif., was the last to sit down and answer questions about the transition to college, what the upcoming season has in store and just let the fans get to know her off of the field.
What are your personal goals this season?
My personal goals are to work really hard and play the best that I ever have. I want to support the team and get closer to them and grow as a person in softball and in general.
Why did you choose Oregon State?
I chose Oregon State because the campus is beautiful, and I love the girls on the team. We clicked right away. The academics were good, and the coaches are awesome. It just felt right.
What is your favorite thing about Oregon State, so far?
My favorite thing is definitely softball and the girls on the team. When we hang out it’s so much fun. The academics aren’t bad. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it is, but it’s going pretty well.
What’s been the biggest difference for you between high school and college?
I had everything pretty much planned out in high school, but now I have to really plan in doing my homework, studying for tests, softball and extra work. Time management is definitely the biggest difference for me.
How much harder would you say college softball is?
It’s about 100 percent harder. I must say it’s definitely a reality check.
What do you miss most about high school?
Nothing really. I wasn’t a big high school fan. It was all right, but I definitely like it a lot more here.
You’re from around the Bay Area. What do you miss most about home?
I miss the atmosphere. My house. I really love my house; it’s comfortable there.
