No. 7 Arizona Slips Past No. 4 Cal, 178-120

Tucson, Ariz. - Back in action for the first time in over a month, the fourth-ranked California women's swimming team fell to the seventh-ranked Arizona Wildcats, 178-120 in Pac-10 dual meet competition at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon.
Cal (2-2, 1-1 Pac-10) resumes action on Saturday with a dual meet matchup at Arizona State at 11:00 a.m. PT. The Sun Devils fell to No. 2 Stanford on Friday, 167.5-113.5.
'We definitely were a little rusty today,' said head coach Teri McKeever. 'There were however some really good individual performances from Dana, winning three races, to Erica, Lauren [Boyle], Madison and Emily. As a team, we're looking forward to this next month and a half to get back into that racing mode and sharpen up certain areas heading into the Pac-10 Championships.'
The Wildcats started the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of Hailey DeGolia, Ann Chandler, Lara Jackson and Anna Turner posted a time of 1:39.73. Cal's quartet of Lauren Rogers, Alexandra Ellis, Hannah Wilson and Liv Jensen placed third with a time of 1:42.55.
Lauren Boyle helped Cal in the third event of the afternoon after earning a thrilling victory over Arizona's Susana Helms in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:53.61. Helms touched the wall at 9:65.63. Blake Hayter claimed a fifth-place time of 10:08.12.
Boyle grabbed another victory later in the meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.92, followed by Hayter's second-place mark of 4:56.69.
It was a close battle in the 200-yard freestyle as Vollmer touched the wall with a winning time of 1:46.90, almost two seconds faster than Kennedy, who placed second with a season-best 1:48.02. Hannah Wilson (1:50.27) and Boyle (1:51.14) finished 7-8 as well. Vollmer owns the second-fastest time in the 200 free in the country (1:43.66).
Lauren Rogers held off Andrea Boritzke for second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.49. Dagg nabbed a sixth-place finish with a time of 56.60 - her best of the season.
Vollmer claimed her second victory of the meet with a winning time of 1:59.09 in the 200-yard butterfly, while teammate Amanda Sims touched the wall in third with a time of 2:00.29.
Vollmer's final individual victory came in the 100-yard butterfly after she clocked a 54.42. Sims nearly took second (Ana Agy, 55.00), but had to settle for third with a time of 55.02.
Jensen clocked a 23.07 in the 50-yard freestyle, well enough for third place, while Wilson registered a 50.54 in the 100-yard freestyle (fourth place).
In the final event of the meet, Cal's quartet of Kennedy, Dagg, Jensen and Vollmer took second in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:21.25 (Arizona, 3:20.08).
Cal's young diving squad had a good showing as well at the meet. Freshman Alissa Barker took second place on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 240.45 and placed second on the 3-meter diving board with a score of 261.90.
