No. 4 Cal Cruises Past Arizona State, 162-91

Tempe, Ariz. - The fourth-ranked California women's swimming team got back on the winning track with a 162-91 conference dual meet victory at Arizona State on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears were extremely efficient in the butterfly and freestyle events at the Sun Devil Aquatics Center.
Cal (3-2, 2-1 Pac-10) has three more regular season dual meets left, beginning with home dates against USC and UCLA next weekend at Spieker in Berkeley.
The Bears grabbed 11 early points in the first competition of the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, as the foursome of Lauren Rogers, Alexandra Ellis, Dana Vollmer and Madison Kennedy outlasted ASU's foursome with a winning time of 1:43.49.
Lauren Boyle, who took first place in the 1000-yard freestyle at Arizona on Friday, also claimed a first-place finish in the 1000 on Saturday with a time of 10:05.58. Blake Hayter followed in second with a time of 10:13.05 and Shelley Harper placed third with a mark of 10:16.62.
It was a 1-2-3 finish for the Bears in the 200-yard freestyle, with Liv Jensen posting a winning time of 1:50.45. Erica Dagg touched the wall second (1:52.07), followed by Natalie LaRochelle with a season-best 1:52.65.
Cal also flexed its muscle in the 100-yard backstroke, claiming a 1-2-3 finish as well. Rogers clocked a first-place post of 56.64, followed by Tara Thomas (57.54) and Kennedy (57.61).
Sophomore Amanda Sims turned on the jets in her second 50-yard split to create separation from the pack in the 200-yard butterfly and cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 2:00.61, two seconds ahead of ASU's Aubry Ashton. Hannah Wilson (2:04.47) and Courtney Eronemo (2:04.48) finished 3-4 respectively.
The Bears garnered a total 16 points with a 1-2-3 finish in the 50-yard freestyle, as Kennedy sprinted to a first-place finish with a time of 23.17, followed by Jensen (23.31) and Vollmer's 23.41.
Vollmer went right back to work and led from start to finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of 49.79, followed by Wilson in second with a 50.65.
Emily Verdin had a fast second split (30.30) in the 200-yard backstroke which enabled her to increase her lead and touch the wall in first with a time of 2:01.73. Thomas earned a third-place finish with a time of 2:03.87.
Vollmer grabbed another victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.91.
Sims used an explosive first 50-yard spilt (25.88) in the 100-yard butterfly en route to a first-place finish of 55.28.
The quartet of Wilson, Dagg, Kennedy and Jensen put their stamp on the meet with a first-place time of 1:33.00 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
