Trojans Post Some Strong Swims In Final Home Meet Against Washington
Jan. 24, 2009
Gloomy weather did not impede a number of Trojans from posting season-best times during the USC men's swimming team's final home event in a non-scored dual meet against Washington on Saturday (Jan. 24).
In fact, USC posted its first NCAA consideration time of the season in the 800y free relay as senior Vanni Mangoni, freshman Patrick White, sophomore Luke Tanner and junior Zoltan Povazsay finished first in 6:35.70.
Four Trojans secured season-best efforts in the 50y free as USC swept the top four spots. Sophomore Jake Grosser won in 20.15 while freshman Jeff Daniels lowered his time to 20.22 (from 20.53 earlier this year). Sophomore Kevin Swenson (20.94) and junior Andrew Schneider (20.96) were third and fourth.
Tanner (44.85) and Daniels (45.14) later posted season-bests in the 100y free while freshman Julian Bonse did the same in the 1650y free (15:46.82).
Senior Ankur Poseria shaved almost two-and-a-half seconds off his best 100y back mark of the year, finishing first in 49.32, USC's best effort in the event this season. Senior Kevin Bartell then won the 100y breast in a season-best 55.79,
The Trojans men's team is next in action at California on Feb. 6 and at Stanford on Feb. 7. Both meets are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
