UC Davis Game Recap

Jan. 24, 2009

The Arizona women's tennis team kicked off the spring season with a 6-0 win against UC Davis.

Senior Danielle Steinberg defeated Davis' Randi Schuler 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot.

Arizona received solid performances from all three of their freshman, including Natasha Marks, who defeated Herzyl Legaspi 6-1, 6-0.

'I'm very happy with today's win,' said head coach Vicky Maes. 'The freshman did a great job today, and handled their first matches well. Double's play was tight, but we kept our focus through to singles play. I'm very pleased with today's outcome.'

In doubles play, junior Claire Rietsch and freshman Natasha Marks fell to Randi Schuler and Desiree Stone in a tie breaker 5-6.

Then, Danielle Steinberg and freshman Sara Landsman defeated Herzyl Legaspi and Dahra Zamudio 8-2, and junior Ariane Masschelein and freshman Debora Castany knocked off Jenna Kappel and Sidney Brady 9-7.
