GymDawgs Journal: Karen Cain
Jan. 26, 2009
Hey Dawg Fans,
First of all I just want to say thank you to all of our fans who have been at the last two home meets. You all make home meets so much fun and we as a team are thankful for your support.
I can't believe that season is already here. It seems as though we just started preseason! We have had two home meets so far. The first against Alaska and the second was a quad-meet with Stanford, Sac State, and SPU. I am proud to say that we are 3-1 at home. While there were mistakes at both meets I think that they both provide valuable learning tools for us as a team. We proved to ourselves that we could hit all four events. For example, bars was an event that we struggled on during out first home meet. After that we went back to the gym and worked really hard to increase consistency and confidence. It certainly showed when we hit six of six routines the next weekend. While we have not yet hit all four events in the same meet, we now know that we have the capability to hit all four and put up a big score. These first two meets have me excited to see what we are going to accomplish as team this year.
It will also be a great experience for us to hit the road these next two weekends. Traveling is where you really get to know your teammates. Before the first travel meets we are a team of freshmen, sophomores, and seniors. This is not to say that we don't appreciate and care for our teammates, just that there are people you know better than others and some you really just have not gotten the chance to fully know. Traveling and rooming with different teammates every week gives us that chance to get to know each and everyone of our teammates. This helps create that tight-knit team chemistry that is essential for success.
All in all, I think that we are poised for a successful season. We have the talent, the desire, and commitment to do great things.
Thanks again Dawg fans and I can't wait to see you all again at our Feb. 7 home meet vs. Arizona!
