Stanford's Muller, Washington's Chan Named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- STANFORD senior Blake Muller and WASHINGTON sophomore Venise Chan have been named Pac-10 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week for Jan. 19 - 25, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Muller, paired with doubles partner Richard Wire, knocked off the nation's second-ranked doubles team of Robert Farah and Steve Johnson from USC, 8-4, to capture the Sherwood Cup doubles title in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The Santa Barbara, Calif., native advanced to the second round of singles competition with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Nick Gourley of Boise State.
This is the first weekly honor for Muller and the 2nd overall for Stanford. The Cardinal return to action Tuesday, Jan. 27 as it hosts Sacramento State.
Chan helped Washington improve to 3-0 on the season as the sophomore went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play at No. 47 BYU and No. 50 Utah. The Hong Kong, China, native won both her singles matches in straight sets. Chan teamed up with Denise Dy to pull out a pair of 9-7 doubles victiories. She is now 10-2 on the year in singles and 9-1 in doubles matches with Dy.
This marks the second weekly honor for Chan and the 3rd all-time for Washington. The Huskies had not defeated a ranked opponent on the road since 2005, yet did it back-to-back on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 this season.
