Cougar Women Await Sun Devils

The Washington State women's basketball team (8-10, 1-6 Pacific-10 Conference) closes out the month of January and its first run through the Pac-10, playing host to Arizona State (13-6, 5-2 Pac-10) and Arizona (7-11, 0-7 Pac-10) this week in Pullman.
The Cougars will first square off against Arizona State, Thursday (Jan. 29) at 7 p.m., and then against Arizona, Saturday (Jan. 31) at 2 p.m.

Senior guard Katie Appleton needs only eight points to become the 12th individual in school history to amass 1,000 career points.
APPLETON CLAIMS 3-POINT RECORD
With four 3-point field goals against UCLA (Jan. 22), Appleton passed Joanna Smith (143; 1997-2001) to become WSU's career leader in the statistical category. Appleton now has 147 career 3-pointers.
NATION'S BIGGEST TURNAROUNDS
With three more victories already in 2008-09 than in all of last season, the Cougars rank tied for 13th nationally amongst teams making the greatest turnarounds this season.
FROSH ONE-TWO PUNCH
Not only does Cougar freshman Jazmine Perkins rank sixth in scoring in the Pacific-10 Conference at 14.2 ppg, she is the top freshmen in the league and entered this week ranked fifth nationally amongst freshmen. April Cook ranks second amongst Pac-10 freshman - and ninth overall in the conference - at 13.4 ppg. Perkins and Cook also rank eighth and 11th, respectively, in points scored by freshmen nationally.
The Cougars are looking for their first victory over the Sun Devils since Feb. 28, 2004, a 75-72 victory at Friel Court. WSU trails Arizona State in the all-time series 12-32, and is 9-14 when playing at home.
The Cougars have added two televised games to the 2008-09 schedule. WSU's home games against USC (Feb. 20) and Washington (March 6) will each be televised by FSN Northwest. Both games will tip-off at 7 p.m.
