Ekaterina Kamendova Medical Update

Jan. 27, 2009

PULLMAN, Wash. - During last Wednesday's tennis match against Weber State University, Washington State University sophomore tennis player Ekaterina Kamendova was rushed to the hospital following her doubles match with what doctors discovered was a collapsed lung. Kamendova underwent surgery Wednesday at McKay-Dee Medical Center in Ogden, Utah to re-inflate the lung.

'Kate's injury was addressed at the hospital where she is receiving excellent care,' said WSU Assistant Athletic Director/Athletic Training Services Bill Drake. 'The medical staff at Weber State has done a great job of keeping us up-to-date, for which we are very grateful.'

Kamendova, a native of Moscow, Russia, has been the Cougars' No. 1 player this season, posting a 9-2 singles record.

'Our team's primary concern is for Kate's well being,' said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart. 'We have a close-knit team, with Kate as one of the leaders, and just wish for her healthy return.'
