Men's Tennis Routs Sacramento State 7-0 In Season Opener

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 12 Stanford opened its season with a convincing 7-0 shutout of Sacramento State on Tuesday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal improves to 1-0 while the Hornets fall to 1-2.

Stanford quickly secured the doubles point, with the No. 3 team of Alex Clayton and Bradley Klahn downing Sacramento State's Jimmy Roberts and Jason Smith 8-4 to clinch a 1-0 lead.

The Cardinal then proceeded to win all six singles matches in straight sets. Matt Bruch cruised past Holden Ching 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot to grab a 2-0 lead before Blake Muller and Richard Wire collected wins on courts six and five, respectively, to seal the match.

Freshmen Bradley Klahn and Ryan Thacher picked up their first career dual match victories.

Stanford next faces Boise State in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday, Jan. 31, in the opening round of the ITA National Indoor Championship qualifying round.
