Track & Field Teams Continue Indoor Season In Washington and Idaho

Jan. 28, 2009

The women's track team will open up the indoor season this weekend in Nampa, ID at the Bronco Invitational January 30-31, while the men's team will continue the season in Seattle, WA at the UW Invitational, also on Friday and Saturday.

On the men's side, all event groups will be represented as the Bruins are taking another large squad to compete. Headlining this weekend's competitors are All-Americans Kevin Craddock and Boldizsar Kocsor. Craddock, who did not compete during the 2008 indoor season, is healthy and ready to compete for a spot at the NCAA meet in March in the 60m hurdles. He also holds the school record in that event at 7.73 (set in 2007). Kocsor, who was scheduled to open up at the Lumberjack Invite in Flagstaff two weeks ago, will instead open up in Seattle as he tries to earn back-to-back All-Americna honors in the weight throw.

The Bruins will run a DMR for the first time this season as they also look to return to the NCAA meet. Two-sport superstar Nelson Rosario will begin his UCLA track career in Seattle this weekend as he competes in the long jump. He has been splitting time between football and track workouts the past several weeks. In high school, Rosario had a top mark of 24-8.50.

UCLA's NCAA qualifiers this season, Bo Taylor, Nick Robinson and Dustin DeLeo, will look to improve upon their marks this weekend. Taylor ranks 9th in the shot (59-9.50), while Robinson is 14th (58-7.25). DeLeo is tied for the ninth-best pole vault mark in the country at 17-00.75.

This weekend's meet will give the women's freshmen class a chance to show their skills as many are slated to compete in Idaho. Sprinters, hurdlers, distance runners and throwers will be in action in the first meet of the indoor season for the women's squad.

On the track, heralded recruit Ryann Krais will open up her UCLA career in the 400m and relay. Fellow top recruits Camilla Dencer (400m/800m), RoNecia Nash (60m), Nijah Nelms (60m/200m), Yasmin Woodruff (60m/200m) and Brittany Borman (shot put) will also debut this weekend. The Bruins will contest a 4x400m relay, while the focus will be on sprints and middle-distance races.
