USC Falls to No. 2 Stanford

The USC swimming and diving team took their first loss on the season at No. 2 ranked Stanford, 137-163 on Saturday (Jan. 31) afternoon. The loss drops the Women of Troy to 5-1 overall, 4-1 in the Pac-10 and the win takes Stanford to 18-0 overall, 5-0 in the Pac-10.
USC started the meet off with a big win in the 200y medley relay. The combination of junior Dina Hegazy, freshman Ella Kidron, freshman Tanya Krisman and sophomore Sophie Gosper turned in a new season-best time of 1:40.43.
The Women of Troy next swept the top two positions of the 1650y free, with freshman Katinka Hosszu coming in first (16:36.49) followed by sophomore Ellie Doran (16:39.95). Stanford's Whitney Spence finished in third (16:43.75). In the 500y free, Hosszu again placed first, with a time of 4:50.78
Senior Rachel Waller placed third (1:50.53) in the 200y free followed by seniorKristen Lahey who earned first (53.30) in the 100y backstroke. Lahey added another third place in 100y free with a time of 49.99.
Soni (1:00.33), followed by senior Katy Houston (1:01.84) grabbed first and second in the 100y breaststroke respectively. Soni scored another first place finish in the 200y breaststroke (2:09.95) and Houston finished in third (2:14.60).
In the 200y fly Hosszu placed first, with an NCAA qualifying time of 1:54.26. Elaine Breeden of Stanford placed second (1:54.50) and USC's Krisman rounded out the top three with a time of 1:59.34. Krisman again grabbed a third place finish (55.02) in the 100y fly.
Freshman Tori Ishimatsu again came up big for the Women of Troy, placing first in 3m diving with a score of 311.85 and third in 1m with 280.88.Hegazy earned first in the 200y backstroke with a time of 1:59.09 and freshman Ania Kowalczyk rounded out the top three at 2:02.41.
Finishing out the match was USC's 400y freestyle relay 'A' team of Lahey, Hosszu, Doran and junior Krissy Forelli which nabbed a second place finish (3:25.15). It still wouldn't be enough for the Trojans, as they fell 137-163.
Next up for the Women of Troy is a dual match with cross-town rival UCLA at McDonald's Swim Stadium on Friday, February 13 at 12 p.m.
