Men's Golf Opens Spring Season In Hawaii

The No. 8 Arizona State men's golf team begins its spring season February 4-6 at the 19th annual UH-Hilo Invitational at the Mauna Lani Resort in Kona, Hawaii. Other teams participating in the 18-team field along with ASU include No. 2 Southern Cal, No. 5 Stanford, No. 10 Georgia Tech, No. 11 Washington, No. 16 Texas Tech, No. 20 TCU, No. 31 Florida State, No. 32 UC Davis, No. 48 Colorado, and host Hawai'i Hilo
Six golfers will be competing for ASU including sophomores Jesper Kennegard (Klippan, Sweden), James Byrne (Banchory, Scotland), Stephan Gross (Leimen, Germany) and Scott Pinckney (Anthem, Ariz.) and juniors Knut Borsheim (Bergen, Norway) and Tristan Birenbroodspot (Loon Op Land, Netherlands).
ASU will be playing 18 holes each day beginning Wednesday and concluding Friday. Last year ASU finished second at this event and were led by Kennegard who won the event with a 13-under 197 (68-63-66). Gross finished eighth with an 8-under 202 (64-68-70), and Borsheim tied for 17th with a 3-under 207 (71-70-66).
