Stanford-UC Davis Match Rescheduled For Tuesday, Feb. 10
Feb. 4, 2009
STANFORD, Calif.- No. 5 Stanford opened its season with three convincing victories over a four-day stretch last weekend at home. Now the Cardinal will get a full week off before its next test.
That's because Thursday's match against UC Davis, originally slated for Feb. 5 at 1:30 p.m., has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 2:30 p.m. Both teams agreed to reschedule, as tomorrow's weather forecast calls for steady rain.
When the Cardinal and Aggies eventually do square off, a lengthy and unthinkable streak will be on the line. With three wins last week, Stanford extended its winning streak in regular season home matches to 109. Throw in a 28-0 record in NCAA Tournament matches played at Taube Family Tennis Stadium and Stanford is unbeaten in the last 137 contests played on its home court. Stanford's last loss at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium occurred on Feb. 27, 1999, when No. 4 California pulled a 5-4 upset.
Following its match against UC Davis, Stanford will compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships next weekend (Feb. 13-16). The Cardinal earned a berth in the event after posting 6-1 victories over No. 51 Colorado and No. 36 Illinois last weekend in the qualifying round. The 16-team draw for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships will be announced on Feb. 10.
Meanwhile, there is little movement in the latest edition of the national rankings this week. Stanford remains at No. 5, trailing No. 1 Northwestern, No. 2 California, No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 Baylor. The top-10 is rounded out by No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Duke and No. 10 USC.
