Sophomore Stephan Gross Leads ASU In The Second Round

Stephan Gross propelled the Sun Devils into seventh place with a 5-under par 67 in the second round of the Big Island/ UH-Hilo Invitational at the Mauna Lani North Course in Hawaii. ASU shot a 3-over par 291 in team play and now has a combined two-day total of 587, leaving them just one shot shy of tying the University of Oregon for sixth.
Gross rebounded from a 4-over par afternoon in the first round by posting the second best individual score of the day. The sophomore from Germany and two other golfers are deadlocked at ninth, with a 1-under par 143 (76, 67).
Junior Tristan Bierenbroodspot recorded another solid round, scoring a 2-over par 74, pushing his two-day total to a 3-over par 147 (73, 74). He is now tied for 22nd, while sophomore James Byrne sits two strokes back with a 5-over par 149 (73, 76) after shooting a 4-over par 76. Sophomore Scott Pinckney (72, 77), playing individually, shot a 5-over par 77 to finish the second day with the same score as Byrne. Knut Borsheim (74, 77), a junior, also ended the afternoon with a 77, giving him a 7-over par 151 through two rounds. Sophomore Jesper Kennegard (85, 74) greatly improved on his score from the first day with a stellar round, registering a 2-over par 74, giving him a 15-over par 159 going into the final stretch.
