Trojans Tack Up 6-0 Win At San Diego State
Feb. 6, 2009
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The No. 6 USC men's tennis team snagged a win on its first road trip of the season in a 6-0 decision over No. 58 San Diego State. Due to weather, the teams opted out of doubles play, but the Trojans needed no doubles momentum in the match as USC rolled out to victory to improve to 6-0 on the season.
Opening up the day's winning run was #54 freshman Matt Kecki, who put away his Aztec opponent from the No. 5 position. Junior Jason McNaughton stepped up next from the No. 6 slot to take USC ahead 2-0 in the match. Another Trojan freshman tacked up a win for a 3-0 USC lead, as Steve Johnson got his victory out of the No. 3 slot to set up #64 senior Abdullah Magdas' match-clincher at No. 4.
Longer matches ensued at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions, but USC got both wins to round out the sweep. Sophomore Jaak Poldma pulled out his win first to take USC ahead 5-0, and junior Robert Farah capped things off at No. 1.
Complete match scores are currently unavailable, but will be updated as soon as possible.
The Trojans' next competition takes them to Chicago for action at the ITA National Indoor Championships next weekend.
