WSU'S Appleton, ASU'S Engelbrecht Named ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA All-District 8 Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington State senior Katie Appleton and Arizona State senior Kate Engelbrecht were voted to the District 8 ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA All-Academic Team, the College Sports Information Directors of American announced.
Englebrecht is a kinesiology major, carrying a 3.75 grade point average. She earned a second team nod on the all-district squad. A guard from Tucson, Ariz., she has played in all 22 of the Sun Devils' games this season, averaging 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. ASU is currently third in the Pac-10 standings.
Appleton was named to the third team after boasting a 3.41 GPA in movement studies. A guard out of Big Bear Lake, Calif., she has started every game for the Cougars and recently scored her 1,000th-career point. Ranked 10th at WSU all-time in scoring, she is averaging 10.1 points per game. Appleton is also the program's all-time leader in three-point makes, breaking the mark two weeks ago.
To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA Academic All-District team, a player must be at least a sophomore eligibility and earned a cumulative 3.3 grade point average. The all-academic teams are voted on by college sports information directors across the country.
Washington State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6, hosting seventh-ranked Stanford. Arizona State hosts Oregon State on Saturday, Feb. 7 on Fox Sports Net Arizona.
