Deese High Jumps to NCAA PQ at Runners Soul Indoor Track Meet

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Washington State sophomore Ryan Deese became the 29th Cougar man to high jump 7-feet or higher when he won the Runners Soul Open Saturday with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying height of 7-0 1/4 (2.14m) at the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome.
Deese, from Colorado Springs, Colo., led a trio of Cougs in the top three spots in the men's high jump with his personal-best leap. Trent Arrivey (junior, Woodinville), who soared to 7-2 1/2 last weekend, finished second and Shawn Swartz (freshman, Port Coquitlam, B.C.) took third after both cleared the bar at 6-10 3/4 (2.10m).
Jeshua Anderson (sophomore, Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the men's 400m dash in a time of 48.97 seconds after running 47.43 Friday night in the Vandal Indoor race. Reny Follett (junior, Lewiston) finished second in 49.06 after clocking in the previous night in 48.86.
Senior Lorraine King (Fontana, Calif.) won the women's 400m dash in a time of 56.91 after running a PR time at the Vandal Indoor of 55.60. Jalisa Williams (sophomore, Pasadena, Calif.) won the women's 60m hurdles with a PR time of 8.87 and ran a PR 400m time of 59.92.
Sara Trané (senior, Pixbo, Sweden) finished third in the 5000m with a time of 18:03.50, as the two-time Pac-10 steeplechase champion made her initial indoor competition of the season.
WSU women giving PR performances Saturday included Brianne Brown (200m, 26.54), Braidy Bates (200m, 27.17), Jade Langston (long jump, 16-10 3/4), Jennifer Hamilton (shot put, 41-4 1/2), and Cassie Whitfield (weight throw, 48-2).
Cougar men reaching lifetime-bests with their efforts Saturday included Sean Harris (60m hurdles, 8.72), Trevor Sodorff (pole vault, 15-1), Beau Carrillo (pole vault, 14-1 1/4), Sean Wilson (long jump, 21-8 1/4), and Joe Bartlett (shot put, 49-4 1/4).
The Cougars will compete at the Husky Classic Indoor Meet next weekend in Seattle.
